The short version

Tax Store has built what most networks have not: 23 store pages, 100 news articles, and GA4, Tag Manager, the Google Ads tag and the Meta pixel all firing on the homepage. None of the six searches shows Tax Store on page one. H&R Block holds four of them, three at number one.

Positions read live from Google Australia on 9 October 2026. Volumes: High or Medium read from the live page signals (who holds the top results and the People Also Ask cluster). No measured volume tool was used, so every volume is labelled as an estimate.

H&R Block's office locator holds number one for tax agent near me. Two of the next four are American directories. Google's question box asks "Which tax agent is best?", and a store page with its own reviews is how a network answers it.

SEO · Part two

What page one on those searches is worth

The chain, with every assumption written down. Deliberately conservative.

2,000searches a month

The six searches in this report, at an example monthly volume across your store areas. An example, not a measured figure.

220visits a month

The clicks the network does not get today, once its pages sit around position three, rounded down.

11enquiries a month

Enquiries at 5% of those visits, rounded down.

11 a montha month, rounded down

Enquiries for your franchise partners, not lodged returns. No fee is published on the site, so what each is worth is your number, not mine.

Halve the example volume and it is still five enquiries a month going to H&R Block and the directories today. The 23 store pages to catch them are already built.

How we got there

  • Click-through by position: 27% at 1, 15% at 2, 11% at 3 (published organic CTR studies, rounded down)
  • Enquiry rate: 5% of visits
  • Close rate: Nothing assumed about how many enquiries become clients
  • Average sale: Not assumed. No fee is shown on the site
  • Only the clicks you do not already get are counted

Estimates, not promises. Each assumption is deliberately conservative so the number holds up.

What the SEO work is

Turn each store page into a local landing page: the partner's name and photo, the suburbs served, services and hours, local schema and a link to that store's Google profile, then link them from a tax agent near me hub page.

Volumes: High or Medium read from the live page signals (who holds the top results and the People Also Ask cluster). No measured volume tool was used, so every volume is labelled as an estimate. Maths file saved with the evidence for this report.Page 4

Ads verdict

About 200 ads on record point to hrblock.com.au and 20 to itp.com.au, selling online returns and appointments. Taxstore.com.au has 21, and the ones in view recruit franchise partners. None of the three showed as paid on the six searches the day I checked. A search campaign selling the tax return, routed to the nearest partner, is the gap.

Landing page verdict

Your homepage has the 1300 number and a Book Online Tax Return link to a booking page, but no form and no offer. The contact page has a form asking for postcode and preferred office. I did not submit it. GA4, Tag Manager, the Google Ads tag and the Meta pixel all fire on the homepage, so paid traffic can be measured from day one.

The direct-response read
Headline

Theirs: "Don't tax yourself. Max your tax refund." Short, and backed in the copy by a footnoted claim of 24% more on the refund. Missing: a local reason to choose them over the accountant down the road.

Body copy and proof

Theirs: experts, online, anywhere, anytime: convenience plus a number. Missing: a named person. None of the H&R Block ads in view shows the accountant you would actually sit with, which a network of local partners can.

Creative and offer

Theirs: tax-time videos, most under 15 seconds. Missing: a local partner on camera. Your Campbelltown partner's ad, with a suburb and a price from $99 a month, is a model a brand campaign could repeat.

Why this matters: a stronger headline and hook lifts click-through. Higher click-through lowers what Meta charges per click. Cheaper clicks mean more visits from the same budget, and more visits mean more enquiries. The national brands own the feed at tax time; the local partner is the angle neither of them can copy.

Summary

Five improvements, in the order I would make them

1
Sell the tax return in search, by store

The Tax Store ads in view recruit partners. A search campaign on these six terms, selling the tax return and routed to the nearest store page, brings client enquiries to your franchise partners.

Fastest to enquiries
2
Put a form and an offer on the homepage

The homepage has a phone number and a booking link but no form. A postcode box that finds the nearest partner, with one clear tax return offer, catches people who will not call.

Doubles conversion
3
Turn the 23 store pages into local pages

Each store page gets its partner, suburbs, hours, local schema and a link to its Google profile. That is how a network wins near me searches that H&R Block's locator holds today.

Compounds monthly
4
Build reviews on every partner's profile

Your Surry Hills listing shows 5.0 from 8 reviews. H&R Block's Sydney office shows 112. A review request after each lodgement closes that gap office by office.

Fastest to trust
5
A brand Meta campaign partners can localise

Campbelltown is already testing a local ad. One brand campaign with each partner's face and suburb, run through the pixel already firing, gives the brand a local face the national brands do not show.

Who's behind this audit

I ran my own company
before I ran anyone else's ads

At 18 I started a corporate events company doing photo booths, DJing and photography. I could not afford an agency, so I taught myself web development, Meta Ads, Google Ads and SEO off YouTube, got myself to number one on Google, and took it to roughly $300,000.

Everything in this report I can read because I have spent my own money on the exact channels it covers. What follows is not theory. It is what I would fix first.
